Grandma's Yard Sale

The last couple days have been pretty busy. Grandma & I are getting ready to have a yard sale. We have been going thru all her closets and cupboards. She has been very good about letting go of a lot of stuff. A couple items she had from her Mother and her wedding to Grandpa peach, we put aside for heirlooms. I think I have been pretty good about letting her make the decision about what to get rid of. However, there have been a couple of times when I did have to question her as to wether she was sure she needed to keep a few things. One thing was a pair of red plastic earring jackets that looked kind of like a poinsettia. She insisted that she needed to keep them until I asked Grandpa what he thought about them, and he said "throw those ugly things out". They were pretty hideous and she even had to laugh when she took a better look a them. We have collected quite a lot of other "stuff" that we are going to attempt to sell. I was really glad to hear, from her, that we will donate what does not sell. Grandpa was shocked, when he went to get cereal out of the cupboard. He couldn't believe how empty it was.

Today was his day to get his blood transfusion. We got up at 5:30 to leave at 6:15. When we first arrive (2 hrs. later) he has to have his blood drawn and tested. After we wait approx. an hr. his Dr. comes and gets us and we go and talk with him. Today he said the blood count was 7.3. It has been around 8.5. It is slowly getting worse each week. He had 2 pints and we were done by 3:30. The transfusions used to give him a lot of energy, right away. Now, he sees very little difference. He gets tired very easily and seems to sleep a lot. The Dr. said they would re-check his thyroid and see if there is any possible adjustment he might be able to make with that. He will know the results in a couple days. Of course when we get done at the hospitsal, we have to go to eat at Cracker Barrel. By the time we get home, it's been a 12 hr. day for us. When I go home, a couple of Granpa's friends have offered to start driving him. Next week, I think Grandma is going to talk to the Dr. to see if there are any other alternatives to coming to West Palm. Hopefully he will be able to set something up closer to home. I really don't know.

Yesterday, Grandpa & I were coming home from town (Bank run) and he touched my heart. He apologized and thanked me at the same time. Lately he has been very bullheaded with me & Grandma. He admitted that he is having a hard time letting others do things for him that he has always been able to do himself. He knows his time here on Earth is limited. He said he's ready to go whenever the Lord wants him and he is not afraid, but he is worried about how things will be in the end. It's been hard for him not to dwell on it. I told him that I can understand why he would feel the way he does. Of course none of us ever know when are time will be, but in his case, he knows it will be soon. Other than being forgetful, his mind is still pretty sharp. Yesterday, he took me, Grandma & the Pastor & his wife out to dinner. We had a great time. When we finished eating I had Grandpa tell his funny story about his boat sinking on the day of his daughters wedding. I videotaped it and it is hysterical. When I get home from Fla. I am going to post it. I am looking forward to coming home, but at the same time, hate leaving. I guess I just have to wait and see how things go and if needed, may have to come back in the future.

Check out the snake that slithered in front of our car when we came home last night.
