Dear Family & Friends,
I am writing this letter to you today to make a special request.
As you all know, Grandpa George is in the final stages of his illness (sideroblastic anemia. He has fought gallantly to be able to live well beyond his prognosis. His diagnosis was in the year 2002 and was told he only had 2-3 years to live. Since he is a very stubborn old marine, he has shown them!
Yesterday, on our way home from the V.A. he told Grandma & I that he had a talk with his Dr. regarding his time left. The prognosis wasn’t good. He was told he has no immune system left and the slightest cold or illness will probably be fatal to him.
Today when I awoke, I was thinking how nice it would be to let him know how he has touched my life. He is such a kind and gentle man and has always done everything in his power to try and please. I decided the best way to do this would be to put it in writing. Then, I thought to myself, how nice that would be if everyone he knew would do the same thing for him. Every morning, he looks forward to getting the mail. Instead of bills, wouldn’t it be nice if he was to get letters of love addressed to him. However, if you prefer, feel free to stop by and see him or a phone call now and then would be great too!
Instead of waiting til after he is gone, let’s let him know how he special he is now.
If you prefer for your letter to be personal. Please note it on the envelope. I am planning on putting them in a journal for later.
Sincerely, Shelly xoxoxo
